The Minuet is an affectionate, people-oriented cat breed created by crossing the Persian with the Munchkin, giving it a sweet Persian-style round face and a compact body that often carries the Munchkin's short legs. It was originally called the Napoleon and was renamed the Minuet by the cat registry TICA in 2015, so the two names refer to the same breed. Minuets pair the Persian's calm, cuddly temperament with the Munchkin's playful energy, and they come in both short-legged and standard-legged types, with a longhair coat.

They inherit the gentle, laid-back sweetness of the Persian alongside the bright, curious playfulness of the Munchkin, which gives them the best of both worlds: a cat that will happily curl up in your lap, then bounce off to chase a toy a moment later. Despite their short legs, Minuets are fast and love to zoom around the home.
They are sociable, adaptable and easygoing, and they generally get along beautifully with children, other cats and even dogs, which makes them a lovely fit for a busy family home. They are not shy or standoffish; most Minuets want to be right in the middle of whatever you are doing, following you from room to room and greeting you at the door.
Because they stay closer to the ground and are not big jumpers, Minuets are a little easier to live with than more athletic breeds. A scratching post, a few toys and some cosy spots to nap are all they need to feel completely at home, and they settle quickly into calm, apartment life.

Minuets are generally healthy, happy cats, and the question we hear most is whether their short legs cause them pain. The honest answer is no, not when the breed is bred responsibly. Unlike some short-legged dog breeds, Munchkin-based cats have a normal spine, and studies to date have not found the back problems people often assume. The short legs come from a single dominant gene, and this is exactly where the breeder makes all the difference.
Ethical breeders never pair two short-legged cats together, because that combination is unsafe for the kittens. Instead, a short-legged cat is always bred to a standard-legged one, which keeps litters healthy and is why some Minuet kittens have short legs and some have standard-length legs. The breed also carries the Persian line, so the condition that matters most to screen for is PKD, which affects the kidneys.

Grooming and cAREAre Minuets easy to groom?
Minuets are longhaired, inheriting the Persian's fuller, silkier coat, which is beautiful but does need brushing several times a week, sometimes daily, to keep it free of mats and tangles. Because Singapore is warm and tropical, Minuets here keep a lighter coat year-round, so they don't go through the heavy seasonal sheds that cats in colder climates do.
The good news is that Minuets are so easygoing that grooming becomes a pleasant routine rather than a struggle. Once they trust you, they will usually settle in and let you brush them, trim their nails and check their ears. Their short legs mean the tummy and back end can be a little harder for them to reach when self-grooming, so a helping hand there keeps them tidy. You can support coat health with a high-quality diet rich in omega-3 and omega-6, which keeps the coat glossy and reduces loose fur.
Should I bathe or shave my Minuet?
Minuets are naturally clean and rarely need bathing. A bath every two to three months, only if needed, using a gentle cat-safe shampoo, is plenty. Avoid commercial grooming salons unless absolutely necessary, since the noise and handling by strangers can be very stressful for cats. We generally advise against shaving, because the coat protects the skin and shaving risks post-clipping alopecia, where the fur grows back patchy, and in a longhaired Minuet the coat may never return to its original texture. The only areas worth light trimming are the paw pads and the sanitary area, especially on longhaired cats, and we show you how to do this at home.
What should I feed my Minuet?
After years of caring for cats, we have tried it all, from raw and home-cooked to freeze-dried, kibble and canned food. What we have found works best and is most sustainable is a balanced mix of good-quality kibble and wet food. A simple daily routine might be kibble for breakfast, a few freeze-dried bites as an afternoon snack, and a generous serving of wet food with added water for dinner to support hydration. Because Minuets are small, keeping them at a healthy weight matters, so we help you keep portions right for their size.
A few small extras help too. A scoop of probiotic powder supports gut health, which is closely linked to immunity and digestion, and a few drops of fish oil provide the omega-3s that keep skin and coat healthy and reduce shedding naturally. If allergies are a concern, we always recommend spending time with the cats first, and a lower-Fel d1 breed such as the Siberian may suit you better.
